The Number One Favorite Comedy On Television.
Consistently, the ABC show “Modern Family” is not only the top rated Comedy program on television, but also one of the most popular as well. The show, which centers around a “documentary” style taping of three families: The Dunphy’s (a “traditional family” with three children), the Pritchett’s (which feature a re-married father with his Colombian wife and child), and the Tucker-Pritchetts (two gay parents with their adopted Vietnamese child), won the Emmy in it’s first season for “Best Comedy Series”, and continues to be among the top rated programs in all of television.
While the show is full of quick wit and some of the best writing on all of television, the characters are also relatable in the they have something that many comedy programs lack: heart. What people love is that the family are written like real human beings: while they may have flaws and they don’t always get a long, they love each other and would do anything for those in their family. Like “Arrested Development” before it, “Modern Family” is the kind of show that doesn’t adhere to traditional sitcom ideals like a laugh track or one note character development. Comedy shows like these have helped change the face of television, in a good way.
