The New Phase Of The Action Comedy.

Action Comedies started taking hold in America during the 1980′s. This genre tries to blend the violent, fast-pace, cliff-hanging, draw of the action film together with the slapstick timing of a comedy. With both genres being able to draw a specific crowd, the combination of them would seem to make more sense in the long run.

Action Comedies can be buddy films that portray two partners, one an expert and the other a fool. Action Comedies can also (more…)

Sunday; Belongs To The Families And Their Lives.

Sunday has become the best day for television, hands down, offering plenty of variety for the whole family even well after the kids have gone to bed.

First, you have your Sunday sports. From the NFL to the biggest NASCAR races, Sunday afternoons are often built around our classic American sporting events. During baseball season, every team plays on Sunday, and the NBA builds its entire season schedule around marquee Sunday afternoon matchups. All four of golf’s majors and other big tournaments build to (more…)

The Number One Favorite Comedy On Television.

Consistently, the ABC show “Modern Family” is not only the top rated Comedy program on television, but also one of the most popular as well. The show, which centers around a “documentary” style taping of three families: The Dunphy’s (a “traditional family” with three children), the Pritchett’s (which feature a re-married father with his Colombian wife and child), and the Tucker-Pritchetts (two gay parents with their adopted Vietnamese child), won the Emmy in it’s first season for “Best Comedy Series”, and continues to be among the top rated programs in all of (more…)

Classic Favorites: Which One Is Yours.

There are a lot of classic television shows that are easy to enjoy, but one has always stood out. That show would be the comedy Hogan’s Heroes. This was a show that debuted in 1965, airing for six seasons and 168 episodes. It is a light hearted comedy that combined jokes and physical comedy with having the Germans who ran the prisoner camp so dumb you could not help but laugh.

The story is based around a group of Americans that are in a German prisoner of war camp. The Americans are led by Colonel Robert Hogan. (more…)

Reality Shows Just What Is The Charm.

My grandmother could always come up with an old saying relevant to the situation at hand. One of her favorites about how the truth was often stranger than fiction is borne out daily on reality TV shows. For me the charm of reality programs is getting a glimpse of how others live behind closed doors.

For example Fatal Attractions is an Animal Planet show about people who own unique pets. On a recent episode a family actually had crocodiles wandering about their house. Other episodes have focused on free (more…)

Discovery Fit and Health

Good news for all those television fans that thought by gaining their OWN network (the Oprah Winfrey Network) they would be losing access to all the great health and medical shows that would be lost when Discovery Health made the transition. Not so it seems.A check of the Discovery Health website reveals an announcement that “with a programming slate that combines the most compelling real-life stories of Discovery Health with the audience-favorite fitness programming of FitTV, Discovery Communications will rebrand its FitTV network to Discovery Fit & Health on February 1, 2011. Discovery Fit & Health will be available in approximately 50 million homes and found at the channel location currently occupied by FitTV.”The channel will keep its hit franchises such as Dr. G: Medical Examiner; I’m Pregnant and; 911: The Bronx; and Untold Stories of the ER; as well as combining favorite FitTV shows such as Bodies in Motion with Gilad and Namaste Yoga to name a few.We can’t speak for everyone, but we’re thrilled that Discovery Health listened to the outcry of viewers and are responding with a continued commitment to provide forensic mysteries, amazing medical stories, emergency room trauma dramas, baby and pregnancy programming, parenting challenges, and stories of extreme life conditions while supplementing them with an eye on a fit and healthy lifestyle, as well. We’re applauding.

OWN It

Well, it seems that Oprah Winfrey has decided to go big really big with the launching of her own cable network; aptly called OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). Launched on January 1, 2011 the network will feature shows like:Master Class showcases eight modern masters such as Diane Sawyer, Maya Angelou, Simon Cowell, and Dr. Condoleezza Rice as they share some of their biggest life lessons they’ve learned along the way.Anna & Kristina’s Grocery Bag is centered in two hosts that put popular cookbooks to the test when each episode is dedicating to a particular cookbook and the two recreate recipes to explore their ultimate outcome as well as provide tips and tricks along the way.Miracle Detective focuses on two investigators who travel the world to discover and uncover incidents that “transcend logic.” Slated for season one the two investigate mysterious cases such as a man who professes to have x-ray vision and a home where oil mysteriously and inexplicably seeps from its walls and (more…)

NFL Sunday Ticket

Sure, it can be a lot of fun to hang out at my local sports bar with my friends to catch the hot weekend game. But I have to also admit that sometimes I wish I could just hang out in the comfort of my own home to get up close and personal with my favorite team (which I’m not about to mention since this isn’t about them, it’s about how to catch the best games they play in). That’s where the NFL Sunday Ticket (available only on DIRECTV) comes into play (no pun intended). It’s the only way I can view every single NFL game of the season, even if I’m interested in an out-of-market team. This package is also an excellent resource for fantasy football aficionados who need to keep track of their teams during every single game they may be playing in. And with NFL Sunday Ticket To-Go I can even keep track of the action on my smartphone or computer which means I can watch every game live no matter where I am TV available or not! Personally, I was able to keep track of the action this past Sunday while at a family function that didn’t include any television viewing. Smartphone to the rescue and a few trips to the (more…)
